    February 11, 2010
    February 11, 2010
  31. Cathy Crawley - Fantastic entries Jose! But with creative types like us photographers I wouldn't expect anything less :) Good luck!
    February 11, 2010
  32. jenberry - very cool entries. everyone put so much effort. excited to see who wins!!! thanks for getting people (me) back behind my camera a bit
    February 11, 2010
  33. Dana Saeed - This is Dana, I made the Mexican Breeze video, I would love to thank everyone for their comments and votes, it is so exciting :). Also I just realized that Allison made the video to the italy workshop competition! That was amazing and this is amazing as well :) Good luck.
    February 11, 2010
  34. Kenny - Mexican breeze is good but, come on. the first one rocks people.
    February 12, 2010
  35. Hussain - The first one is funny, but creativity-wise, not much there.
    February 12, 2010
  36. Jessica Arroyo - Hello, It's been a huge disappointment to see that Mexico Workshop promotes marketing and not art, I truly respect each of the finalists work but I don't think they are expressing their passion for photography by any means. I think that they should inform themselves about mexican culture, it has more significance than just dancing with a funny hat in front of the camera with the flag colors. Mexican culture is really vast in music, food, art, and festivities. My concept about your work has changed drastically. Art as well as photography require passion, intelligence, love, but most of all knowledge. The world is diverse as well as it's people, that is the beauty of it. As a mexican and photographer is really sad to see how you are promoting mediocrity, lack of passion, and stereotype to fit in a really select group.
    February 12, 2010
  37. Wes - Well said Jessica! I wondered if anyone besides myself found entry #1 to be stereotypical, or even borderline offensive. I'm not Mexican, but I found it strange that people thought #1 was 'funny and awesome' but no one seemed to realize that it's also a caricature and stereotype.
    February 12, 2010
  38. Caroline fontenot - I don't think mexican culture has anything to do with dancing in a hat with glow sticks, I just wanted to make some people laugh. I'm quite aware of the vastness of the Mexican culture and respect it tremendously, but the contest wasn't about showing passion for photography or the culture, it was about "why you deserve to join us"...my simple reason : "because I want you" with some humor involved. I don't have insane video skills so I knew more people would wow with their skills with video, I just wanted to put a smile on some faces, not to offend.
    February 12, 2010
  39. Allison - Caroline, your video makes me laugh -- I admit, even my daughter wants to watch it way more than mine (inspire me mexico). every time she see's it she says "again!" - because she's obsessed. I'm glad you defended it, and pointed out the lightheartedness and fun of it. people take these things so seriously! :)
    February 12, 2010
  40. Danielle - Jessica I too am sorry to hear of your disappointment. I am a Mexican and though I deeply appreciate the art and passion that so defines my culture....I love a good laugh too. A quirky woman in a sombrero with a mustache making a fool of herself...now that's just funny! If it made Jose laugh...it made him laugh. I hardly think that says anything negative about his character or integrity of his work. Like I said before, I am Mexican and a photographer and my video had a Rollei all dressed up in a Sombrero with a mustache....does that mean I have a lack of respect for my own culture because I find the humor in it? Congratulations to all the finalists!
    February 12, 2010
  41. Caroline fontenot - Thanks Allison :)
    February 12, 2010
  42. jose villa - Caroline - Im glad you submitted this video.. i would not change a thing.. Im Mexican (obviously) and I disagree with both Jessica and Wes, it was extremely funny to me and all my family.. we love it so much!! thanks for the laugh .. cheers! jose
    February 12, 2010
  43. Sherry - I suspect that Jessica and Wes are just sore losers. Let's all just lighten up a little and be happy for these four contestants! :)
    February 12, 2010
  44. Allison McCue - Caroline Fontenot's video is the best ever! It takes tons of talent and creativity to be so simply hilarious!
    February 12, 2010
  45. Caroline fontenot - Danielle, thanks for your comment as well. I really wanted your video to be in the top! It was my favorite :) And Jose...thank you very much!!!
    February 12, 2010
  46. rachael - what a bummer that ppl are being so judgmental.. this isn't the nobel prize .. it's 12 seconds to make an impression, and I am super grateful for the laugh.we all need to learn that there is an appropriate time for everything.. and carolines video was perfectly appropriate. however some of these comments i deem far less so. GIVE THE POLITICALY CORRECTNESS A FRIGGIN BREAK PPL i love your vid caroline!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    February 13, 2010
  47. kim - loved all of the vidoes. some were funny and some were moving. and some people need to get off of their high horse and realize photography isnt to everyone what it is to you. i am very passionate about it but i also appreciate a good laugh. still voted for the breeze video as it was my favorite.
    February 13, 2010
  48. Lindsey - Hey Caroline, I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in and say your video has been making me laugh every since I first saw it posted for the contest. I keep singing it to my baby and then I realize that is a little weird. Lindsey "My World."
    February 13, 2010
  49. Dana Saeed - Seems like we all play Coraline's video the most. My baby finds it amusing as well and it never fails to make me smile and for that I would like to thank her. Dana "Mexican Breeze".
    February 13, 2010
  50. Caroline fontenot - Haha! that's awesome!! Reason enough to make it to the top 4!!
    February 13, 2010
  51. mariana - I originally posted my comment on the poll but I'm bringing it here: ------ I seriously love the "I know you want me" video, it's hilarious!!! I appreciate a fun video (I'm missing humor in the other three) that's not your typical emotional approach on why you want a scholarship. I like the other videos too (they are all very well thought), but to me the first one stands out by its simplicity and wit. "less is more" ;) ------- oh yeah, and I fully disagree with Jessica and Wes and totally agree with Jose and Caroline. I know you want me FTW!
    February 14, 2010
  52. jenberry - life is too short. enjoy. breathe. these are all awesome.
    February 14, 2010
  53. Caitie - I KNOW YOU WANT CAROLINE FONTENOT! Talented, creative, HILARIOUS! And she takes opportunity in everything to learn. She's a perfect candidate for the workshop! Shame on anyone, especially a stranger, to discredit her in that regard. I can't think of anyone more deserving of a scholarship like this.
    February 15, 2010
  54. best travel guide - Nice post — thanks for sharing.
